Is Your Website as Easy as ABC??
Last Sunday, I realized I made a mistake.
I asked a 5-year-old toddler to use an award-winning website.
No instructions. No help. Just pure curiosity.
Seven minutes later, after tapping around like a detective in a dark room, she got stuck:
🔹 7 random taps
🔹 3 confused head title
🔹 1 frustrated logo
And then, she declared:
“This game is broken!”
And guess what? Kids are incredibly honest web users & don’t sugarcoat things.
And that’s the point..
If a kindergartener can’t use your website, neither can 47% of your customers.
What are you missing if your website isn’t user-friendly?
Five Childhood Problems Killing Your Conversions
The "Where’s Waldo?" Navigation
Imagine a toddler stuck in a maze of buttons, that’s your visitor when your navigation is unclear. Too many choices and they’ll get frustrated and leave. Simplify the journey, so they can find exactly what they need, fast.The "Too Many Toys"
Imagine handing a kid 20 different toys and saying, “Pick one!” If your CTAs aren’t obvious and focused, your users will feel overwhelmed and confused – just like the kid trying to decide.The "Slow Swing" Effect
Kids don’t have patience for a slow game. Neither do your visitors. If your site is slow, 53% of users are already gone, just like a kid who gives up on a game that takes forever to load. Speed is key to keeping your audience engaged.The "Noisy Classroom" Problem
A website full of pop-ups, ads, and distractions feels like someone shouting during storytime. If your site isn’t clean, organized, and simple, visitors will struggle to focus on what matters.
Remember, Less is always more.The "Broken Crayon" Syndrome
Imagine a kid trying to use a coloring page that won’t even load. That’s what happens when your website has Broken links, 404 errors, and glitches. Users get frustrated and leave in a heartbeat. Fix them, or watch visitors storm off.
The ABCs of Web Design: Make Your Site a 5-Year-Old’s Playground
Let’s break it down.

A = Accessible:
Keep It Visible:
Make key elements, like your CTAs and important links, easy to spot. No one likes hunting for what they need. If it’s important, make it bold and obvious.Simplify Navigation:
Just like you’d want to find your favorite toy quickly, your website should have clear, simple navigation. Limit the number of clicks to get to the most important pages, and avoid complex dropdowns or hidden menus.Guide them home:
Your website should be flowing like a natural conversation. Visitors should never feel lost, guide them step by step with clear, easy-to-follow paths so they can quickly achieve their goal, whether it’s purchasing or signing up.
B = Brief:
Short beats smart:
Attention spans are short, get to the point quickly. Use short sentences and bullet points to highlight key info. Your visitors don’t have time to read paragraphs of text.One thing at a time:
Focus on the most important aspects of your message, don’t bury it under fluff. Your core value proposition should stand out and be easily digestible in less than a few seconds.Highlight what matters:
Don’t overwhelm visitors with too much information at once. One key message per section keeps things clean and easy to process. Stick to what really matters, and let them explore more if needed.
C = Clear:
Readable > Fancy:
Fonts, colors, and icons should guide the user naturally. Contrast is important but ensure text is legible and clickable elements are obvious. Don’t make your visitors squint or second-guess where to click.Less clutter, more action:
A messy website equals a confused user. Only display what’s necessary to avoid overwhelming them with too many choices. Keep your pages clean and focused on one goal at a time.Make clicks effortless:
Every action you want users to take should be clear and straightforward. Don’t make them guess what happens next.
Provide a clear flow, from the homepage to checkout or sign-up, with minimal distractions.
