Three mini-breakdowns (and what to do about each)

✦  Meta's new AI agent is connecting to Walmart, Best Buy and Gap.

Meta launched Muse, a personal AI agent that handles tasks like shopping, on September 8. At Meta Connect on September 23, it announced retail connections including Walmart, Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Ulta and Wayfair, with Shop Pay and PayPal handling payments. Sensor Tower estimates put Muse past 3.4 million downloads in under three weeks. Amazon is the holdout: it has blocked Muse from shopping on Amazon.com.

Your move: Amazon can afford to say no because it owns the store, the search and the customer. Most brands can't, so decide on purpose whether to let agents in. Either way, make sure your pages state price, availability and returns in plain text, because an agent works from facts, not from your banner.

✦ Amazon rebuilt its ad platform around an AI agent.

At unBoxed on September 29, Amazon renamed its unified ad platform Amazon Ads Agent, replacing the old Ads Console and DSP experience. It comes with a chat interface and three simplified campaign types: Sponsored Ads, DVA+ and Full-Funnel Campaigns.

Your move: Ask your Amazon rep what placement-level reporting you'll get. When DVA+ reaches your account, test it on a small budget next to your manual campaigns before you move any spend.

✦ Shopify opened its checkout to AI agents, with guardrails.

On September 28, Shopify extended WebMCP to checkout, including Shop Pay. An AI agent running in a shopper's browser can now read the checkout, update it and complete the order once the shopper confirms. Agents can't change line items or enter new card details, payment runs only through a saved Shop Pay card or an existing Shop Pay approval, and Shopify asks them to sign their requests with Web Bot Auth.

Your move: Walk through your own checkout the way an agent would. Can it read the price, shipping and return terms without guessing? If you're on Shopify, ask your developer how your store handles agent checkout.

Two insights from research.

Insight #1

Retirement plan websites trail mobile apps by 53 points on customer satisfaction, based on a 2026 study of 6,634 plan participants. The same research links interactive digital experiences to stronger engagement.

The takeaway: the website is the easiest place to win. Make it adaptive, so every visitor sees what they came for and a clear next step, just like they would in an app.

Insight #2

Nearly three in ten auto and home insurance customers (29%) now use AI tools to research coverage, manage accounts or shop for a policy, based on a first-of-its-kind study of 8,352 customer evaluations.

The takeaway: much of that AI use happens on tools the insurer doesn't control. If AI explains your product, make sure it explains it correctly.

One update from us

Last week we were at InsureTech Connect in Las Vegas with one simple picture: a shopper who needs health insurance for a young family and another who wants coverage for a new home in Brooklyn, both landing on the same generic page.

Here's what we talked about with teams at the booth: how brands can have more say in how AI describes them, and how media teams can personalize at scale, for every visitor and every keyword.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by Booth 1903.

That's it for this week.
